Music

Our Music curriculum provides inspiring, active learning experiences that enable everybody to learn effectively alongside each other, sharing their level of musical skills, knowledge and experience.

Our scheme of work is based on ‘Charanga’, which is promoted and supported by our local authority music service in Stockport. The Spiral Curriculum covers all fundamental elements of Music, which are revisited in each year group. Our music curriculum in EYFS focusses on the Early Learning Goals and the elements of music taught, in order for children by the end of Reception to meet their Early Learning Goal in Expressive Arts and Design: Exploring and using media and materials. Please see below for our long term curriculum plan for music (Nursery to Year 6).

At Queensgate, we buy into ‘First Access’ through Stockport Music Service. This provides and enables our learners in Year 4 to access and learn a tuned instrument throughout the academic year. Lessons are taught by peripatetic staff from the music service. We work closely with Stockport Music Service to ensure that musical experiences, opportunities and performances underpin everything we do.

Our Music curriculum gives children opportunities to engage in many ways. It offers a range of different experiences that enables all learners to collaborate and learn effectively alongside each other. This is shown through assemblies, performances and participation in local and wider community events.

All learners across school are given opportunities to develop their ‘voice’ and participate in the school choir that we offer, performing throughout the year at music events both in and out of school. Children who receive musical tuition both in and out of school also have opportunities to showcase their musical learning and talent through assemblies and bi-annual musical evenings for parents.
